AEO

Answer Engine Optimization

Back to service

AEO, or Answer Engine Optimization, is about making sure a company’s content is not only discoverable, but also provides clear, useful answers to the questions people ask search engines and AI systems.

Alongside traditional search results, direct answers are appearing across an increasing number of platforms. Google AI Overviews, generative search engines, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and other AI-powered systems increasingly synthesize information and provide answers directly. AEO therefore goes beyond keyword optimisation and focuses on questions, topics, entities and clearly structured answers.

As part of ComLab’s AEO process, we identify the questions target audiences are asking, analyse the answers currently being provided, uncover gaps in the brand’s digital presence, and use these insights to improve the website’s content and technical structure.

AEO is closely connected to SEO, GEO and AI visibility. The objective is not simply to create more content for every possible question, but to transform the company’s existing knowledge into accurate, credible, structured and easily interpretable answers.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is AEO?
AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization. It refers to content and technical optimisation methods that help search engines and AI-powered answer systems understand and use website information when generating direct answers.
How is AEO different from SEO?
SEO primarily focuses on improving search visibility and organic traffic. AEO also focuses on making content suitable for answering specific questions directly. The two disciplines complement rather than replace each other.
Can AEO improve AI visibility?
Yes. When a company’s content contains clearly expressed questions, answers, concepts and well-supported information, it becomes easier for AI systems to understand the brand and its expertise.
